On Things Learned At Sea
These below are some of the 'understanding' of a seafarer's life I've learned from sailing on Sealand Endurance and Maersk Sun.
- More than any other profession, seafarers know the meaning of ‘so near, yet so far.’
- Anything certain in shipping always end up uncertain.
- Music is the cure for homesickness.
- Live and let live.
- 1st rule: Boss is always right. 2nd rule: If in doubt, refer to rule 1.
- It's not a problem if you don't want it to be.
- Smoke like a chimney; drink like a fish.
- To be a shippie is to be a good listener.
- What doesn't defeat you, makes you stronger.
- The bigger the problem, the bigger the tool.
- Professionalism doesn't always depend on administration.
- Work like a cadet; spend like a captain.
- If you surrender your point, you’re acquiescent and they win. If you argue your point, you’re defiant and they still win. Conclusion: STAY SILENT.
- Do first, ask later.

The difference between love and infatuation: -
If you like someone but loving that person feels wrong, then it's infatuation.
If you like someone and loving that persons feels right, then it's love.
Be close to someone who makes you happy.
But be closer to someone who is happier with you.
Live for tomorrow (reckless today)
or
Live like there's no tomorrow (cautious today)
